PROGRAMMES DIRECTOR - THE TV FOUNDATION
The TV Foundation is one of the sector’s leading creative development organisations, most well-known for being the charity that owns the Edinburgh TV Festival.
The TV Foundation is committed to helping people from all backgrounds gain access to, and develop their careers further in, the TV industry. The TV Foundation runs a suite of free-to-access initiatives which have helped over 4,000 individuals since 1991. Our programmes incorporate a residential element with access to the Edinburgh TV Festival as well as mentoring and continuing support.
About the Role
The Programmes Director will be responsible for leading on the design, recruitment for, and programming of these initiatives, which benefit hundreds of participants every year. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role is an integral part of the senior management team.
Key performance metrics are around inclusivity and the reach of our programmes and the beneficiaries they serve. The role is currently supported by three people at various points throughout the year, including one full-time permanent member of staff.
Our initiatives include:
Programmes:
The Network: (formerly known as TVYP): An entry-level programme with 50 places on offer to those wanting to start a career in TV who otherwise would not have the opportunity.
Ones to Watch: (formerly known as TV25 and Fast Track): A mid-career programme with 25 places on offer aimed at talented TV professionals with an established track record looking to navigate the next stage of their career on the journey to become tomorrow’s leaders
TV PhD: Supported by the Arts & Humanities Research Council: Aimed at AHRC funded PhD students, this initiative provides 15 places for early career researchers looking to bring their skills to TV
New Writers’ Collective: Supported by All3Media. Launched in 2023, every year 10 of the most promising unrepresented writers without broadcast credits will be selected to become part of the collective which includes development, connections and its own dedicated writers’ retreat in the Spring.
Re:Connect: Designed to help established talent who have, for a variety of reasons, spent time away from the industry. This scheme pilots this year and will benefit five participants.
Events:
The New Voice Awards: Aimed at emerging talent, these annual awards celebrate the future of the industry and those making their first marks in TV, social and beyond
AHTV: Also supported by the Arts & Humanities Research Council, an event aimed at bringing the worlds of TV and academia together, filled with masterclasses and case studies to help producers connect with experts, and for academics to navigate the TV industry
