Director of European Originals, Amazon Studios, Georgia Brown will make her first appearance at the TV Festival since joining Amazon Prime Video.
The former FremantleMedia International exec assumed the role in 2017, as the first Amazon Studios hire outside of Los Angeles. Since then, Brown has built a team at the London Prime Video HQ as well as growing the team in the rest of Europe in order to invigorate local production, inclusive of both globally-popular and locally-successful shows.
Brown considers traditional UK broadcasters to be hugely important to the TV ecosystem and has helped bring popular British shows like A Very English Scandal and King Lear to audiences in the US on Amazon Prime Video. In an ever-shifting TV landscape she doesn’t believe in focusing on any one genre: ‘There’s nothing we are not looking at right now’.
Following this summer’s hugely-anticipated release of British comedy-fantasy series, Good Omens, and the launch of the German docuseries on football team Borussia Dortmund in August, the Director of European Originals will outline her content strategy, commissioning wish list and recent highlights within the session, as well as talking about what’s coming up for Amazon Prime Video in Europe.
At FremantleMedia, Brown was Executive Vice President of Content and Co-Productions, overseeing acquisitions for FremantleMedia International (FMI), the company’s distribution business. She joined from Shine International in 2015, where she was Senior Vice President of Acquisitions, working on shows such as Broadchurch, MasterChef and One Born Every Minute. Prior to that, Brown was a commercial manager at BBC Worldwide and worked with over 120 independent producers in the UK and internationally to manage rights acquisitions and early investment on BBC Worldwide-distributed programming including Africa, Mad Dogs, Misfits, Natural World, Primeval, Sherlock and Top Gear.
