TV Phd

A unique opportunity to gain Insider knowledge of the tv industry

TV PhD was a programme that gave Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)-funded PhD students the opportunity to learn more about the TV industry. Successful applicants also received free access to the Edinburgh Television Festival.

The scheme was aimed at doctoral students who are interested in working in, or with, the television industry.

TV PhD will be back in 2026. Applications open in February.

Meet the delegates

TV PhD is perfect for you if you are ...

  • Thinking about TV being a part of your career.
  • Eager to share your academic research with TV audiences.
  • Keen to learn from and connect with people from all parts of the TV industry.

The TV PhD scheme is only open to PhD Students who are currently being funded by the AHRC through an AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP), Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT), or Collaborative Doctoral Partnership (CDP). The student must be within their AHRC funding period and must have the consent of their supervisor in order to apply.

TV PhD applications will open in February 2026.

A real treat. So exciting to do something outside of what we would typically do as academics. It’s a taster of the TV industry and how you would fit into the industry.
