Molly Carlin is a PhD researcher from South-East London, studying at the University of Sussex. Her thesis, titled ‘How to Jail a Revolution: Theorising the Penal Suppression of United States Political Voices, 1964-2022’ looks at the use of mechanisms such as solitary confinement and censorship as politically-motivated forms of suppression. She has been lucky enough to carry out research in archives across the United States, delving into the words of incarcerated activists through letters, audio interviews, and pamphlets.
