Carys Thomas
New Writers Collective 2023
Carys Thomas is a 28-year-old writer, director, and creative from Cardiff who is keen to combine her passion for purpose with her love of storytelling to create work that makes people think. She began screenwriting in 2020, reaching the top 50 in the BBC Writersroom Interconnected submission which received a record 6,803 entries, and has been perfecting her craft ever since. This year she was selected for the All3Media & Edinburgh Television Festival New Writer’s Collective and featured in Philip Shelley’s script library. Last year she was a finalist in both Papaya Young Directors and Homespun Yarns short film competitions where she received funding to create her own films. Her main passion is writing for the screen, but she’s also published short stories and won awards for her commercial work – writing is something she loves experimenting with in all forms. She also directs films, and this year created an anti-greenwashing advert for Glimpse which was awarded Shots ad of the week and AdAge editor’s pick, and has had short films play in festivals across the world and even premiere at The Prince Charles Cinema in London.
