Beatty Smith

New Writers Collective 2024

Growing up in the Lancashire countryside, Beatty was raised in a conservative, Catholic environment which only made her obsessed with three things: sex, hierarchical control, and the potential for evil in all of us. Beatty’s fascinated by the strange relationship between fear and female sexuality, and her work often explores complex moral quandaries and class issues in tight-knit communities.

In 2015, Beatty left Lancashire to attend the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, entering a bizarre land of Dairy Queens and stadium tailgates. She headed to Los Angeles in 2019 to work as an assistant before pursuing an MFA at USC’s Peter Stark Producing Program, followed by positions at Annapurna and 42. She is now a screenwriter based in London.
