For any unrepped emerging screenwriters looking to take the next steps in their career, this competition is an absolute game changer.  It was clear from the interview how intentionally each person was chosen, and the whole team have and continue to be invested in our success. The writer’s retreat was a phenomenal way to connect with a lovely bunch of writers all at a similar stages. The retreat week was packed full of useful sessions, targeted 1:1’s, and provided eye-opening & barrier de-mystifying advice for facing the industry as a new writer. In addition to the great connections with agents and producers, we also received valuable feedback on our writing – which is always a bonus! And Edinburgh itself was nothing short of incredible. As writer it can feel quite isolating navigating the industry, but there we were immersed in to a network of writers, producers, commissioners, actors and other industry professionals all looking to meeting and connect over great stories. The week is one I won’t forget for a while, and beyond being a professional boost, it was full of amazing events, inspiring talks, and at every stage we felt taken care of and supported by the NVA and All3 teams. It’s been such a pleasure to be part of the NWC for 2023, and as a result I have made some invaluable connections, received representation offers and made long term friendships. Thanks to all the incredible work from the team in organising this, and for screenwriters hoping to work in TV who are on the fence about applying – definitely do it!
