Changemakers [2024]

Why did you apply to Changemakers?
A colleague sent me a link to apply to be a Changemaker, knowing I had a reputation for being the one in the office who always goes on about the environment. I was thrilled to apply because working in this area can feel like a lonely furrow to plough. TV is very siloed and I wanted the opportunity to meet people from different genres who are interested in these issues and with whom I could build both a support network and also together drive change across the industry and from all angles. I also feel passionately that, as storytellers, we have an enormous responsibility to tell this most-pressing of tales and to find ways of engaging people with the action that has to happen to secure us all a future.
What have you got out of it so far?
It is amazing what labels can do and the doors they can open. Being a ‘changemaker’ has allowed me to have open and frank conversations with people in the industry (and beyond) about how we all need to do better. It’s made me feel emboldened to push for change and to highlight the failures. But it has also given me hope that there are many people out there wanting to do the right thing and it feels like the more voices there are, and the more connected we are, the louder and more successful our calls will be.
