programme of comedy showcases announced for edinburgh tv festival 2024

The TV Foundation, Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society and Universal Studio Group (USG) have joined forces for a ground-breaking programme of comedy showcases set to take place on 21st & 22nd August as part of the 49th annual Edinburgh TV Festival.
This unique partnership between Edinburgh TV Festival and The Fringe, fostered by USG, a long-standing sponsor and advocate of both festivals, will provide a pioneering new platform to amplify the voices of emerging talent, connect them with global industry executives, and provide invaluable exposure at one of the largest TV festivals in the world.
Applications are now open via the Edinburgh TV Festival website until 07 June for registered Fringe artists to put themselves forward to be among one of six stand-ups and six scripted show creators who’ll have the opportunity to perform at the TV Festival and receive a full free pass to the event.
More details will be announced soon.
Campbell Glennie, CEO, The TV Foundation / Edinburgh TV Festival said: “So much of the TV Festival’s buzz comes from the very special feeling the Fringe brings to the city every year. We’re turning our mutual appreciation society into something lifechanging for new acts, and voices who otherwise would not get this opportunity. We are grateful to Universal Studio Group for being as excited as we are to support the project and help the finalists make their first steps into the world of TV and beyond.”
Shona McCarthy, Chief Executive, Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society added: “We’re delighted to be working with the TV Festival and Universal Studio Group on this exciting project and would encourage any artist who has work which is broadcast-ready to apply for this opportunity. As a key marketplace for the creative industries, each year the Fringe Society accredits over 1,400 arts industry delegates who explore the festival programme to look for talent. This is a fantastic career development opportunity and our thanks to our partners for creating this for Fringe 2024.”
Pearlena Igbokwe, Chairman, Universal Studio Group said: “We have been attending both the Edinburgh TV Festival and Fringe Festival for many years and have always felt the incredible energy and creative spirit that defines them. These festivals are pivotal for our industry, fostering the exchange of ideas and showcasing the best undiscovered talent. Continuing our commitment to find and amplify new voices, USG is honoured to partner with these formidable institutions to provide a ground-breaking and first-of-its-kind platform to foster the next generation of visionary storytellers.”
Those chosen to showcase their talents will have the chance to further develop their careers, make connections and join the ranks of the many beloved performers who started their journeys at the Fringe including Rose Matafeo, Jordan Gray and Frank Skinner to Michaela Coel, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Steve Coogan, all of whom have appeared in high-profile moments throughout the TV Festival’s history.
