NEW PROGRAMME, CHANGEMAKERS, REVEALS FIRST COHORT OF INDUSTRY LEADERS TRANSFORMING CLIMATE STORYTELLING
The TV Foundation, Edinburgh TV Festival’s charitable umbrella, hosts a number of programmes and initiatives that are about making TV open to all – a place where new perspectives, ideas and stories thrive – and this year there will be over 100 delegates on the ground at the Festival in August.
For the first time, The TV Foundation will be welcoming industry leaders to join Changemakers, a delegation of people from across broadcasters, streamers, indies and the freelance world who want to find new ways to get more programmes with climate storytelling at their heart to viewers. The Foundation’s well-established programmes will continue with attendees who are looking to start their career in TV joining The Network; rising stars of the industry joining Ones To Watch; and experienced professionals returning to the industry joining ReConnect. There will be an incredible range of talented people on the ground, mixing with each other and TV industry stalwarts, attending sessions and making connections that will help them on the next step of their career.
Changemakers will be launching at this years’ festival with 10 established TV professionals coming together for a year long programme to put climate at the heart of the industry. The inaugural delegation includes Nial Flanagan a Senior Producer at ITV Daytime, Monica Garnsey an Executive Producer at the BBC, Tim Hancock a Commissioning Editor for Documentaries and Factual Entertainment and Joe Hullait a Commissioning Executive for Comedy both at Channel 4, Kate O’Hara the Head of Development at Duck Soup Films, Tom Price a Senior Development Producer at Studio Lambert, Dani Rayner Director of Marketing Planning and Operations, EMEA at Netflix, Danusia Samal a freelance actor, writer and campaigner, Martin Trickey Group Head of Digital at Warner Bros International and Louise Turner Commissioning Editor for Film Fund at Channel 4 News for ITN.
Founded 30 years ago, Ones To Watch brings together the industry’s best and brightest; the future leaders of the television industry. With the chance to attend inspiring sessions and creative debate along with unrivalled networking opportunities this is a hugely talented and ambitious group looking to further make their mark on the TV industry. This year’s delegates come from all areas of the TV production including scripted and unscripted programme making, script editing, social media, editing, journalism and writing. Of the final 25 selected 76% are women, 52% are from Black, Asian and other ethnic minority backgrounds and 32% have a disability.
ReConnect returns for the second year to support individuals who are returning to the TV industry after time away. This year’s cohort includes Rubia Dar a Producer/Director and Edit Producer, Screenwriter Chris Lindsay, Development Producer Chabris Napier-Lawrence, Digital Content Strategist Shah Nawaz and Science Documentary Maker Catherine Wyler.
The Network is a free entry-level access programme for anyone who is ready to start a career in television. The 50 delegates who will attend the Edinburgh TV Festival, will be able to take part in workshops with TV industry teams, with the results seen at sessions at the Festival.
Across this year’s festival Ones To Watch and The Network will be attending specially programmed sessions. These include a BBC Studios Drama Productions Workshop: Eastenders Live Read with cast veterans Perry Fenwick and Emma Barton (Billy and Honey Mitchell), MultiStory Media and Channel 4.0 Live Pitch with GK Barry, and a CNN Live News Workshop.
Gemma Bradshaw, Programmes Director, said: “We’re delighted to welcome over 100 TV Foundation delegates to the Festival this year. Every single person on our programmes is bringing a new energy to the industry. Whether it’s our new entrants taking part in The Network, or our industry leaders on Changemakers, we have an incredible range of talented people joining us and we can’t wait to see what happens when they all come together.”
