“Without question this is the outstanding study of social mobility to have appeared in the past 20 years…Anyone who thinks Britain is a meritocracy needs to ponder the lessons of this wonderful book”
Sam Friedman made waves at the TV Festival in August with his insightful study into class. His book, ‘The Class Ceiling: Why it Pays to be Privileged’ is out this month and the associate professor of sociology, LSE, will be discussing his findings – based on 200 interviews across television, accountancy, architecture and acting.
His presentation will be followed by a debate hosted by Channel 4 News Social Affairs Editor and presenter, Jackie Long, with leading industry figures including Channel 4 deputy director of programmes, Kelly Webb-Lamb, discussing how we make the industry accessible to everyone regardless of background. It’s the topic everyone is talking about. Find out what part you can play in tackling unconscious bias and elitism.
The debate will be followed by a lively and interactive presentation on Unconscious Bias by Femi Otitoju, Challenge Consultancy.
