Sara Kozak oversees production for Investigation Discovery (ID) and American Heroes Channel (AHC). In this role, she has been critical to the success of ID, which has become one of America’s fastest-growing cable networks – moving from the #50 network for W25-54 at launch to the #3 network today. Koz (as she’s known…) has also been a key player in guiding AHC to become a top destination for true history content in the U.S. In total, Koz’s production team of 21 staff members oversees nearly 1,000 hours of original content and reversions – including more than 650 hours each year for ID alone.
Great storytelling is the cornerstone of ID’s programming, and Koz has contributed to all of the network’s marquee series, including EVIL LIVES HERE; ON THE CASE WITH PAULA ZAHN; HOMICIDE HUNTER: LT. JOE KENDA; and MURDER CHOSE ME. Koz was also an Executive Producer on WERNER HERZOG’s feature documentary INTO THE ABYSS, his ON DEATH ROW series, and an upcoming investigative special hosted by Keith Morrison.
Koz has more than 30 years of experience as a network executive, series producer, director, event producer, and sports journalist. Before joining the ID and AHC team, she was vice president of production for Emerging Networks and executive produced the hit series THROUGH THE WORMHOLE with Morgan Freeman for Science Channel. Prior to this, Koz was senior executive producer for Discovery Channel, where she was responsible for a range of series and one-off programs including TWO WEEKS IN HELL; DESTROYED IN SECONDS; and UFOS OVER EARTH. Previously, she served as vice president of production for Discovery Health and was senior executive producer for TLC, launching SAY YES TO THE DRESS in 2007.
Prior to joining Discovery Communications, Koz was a series producer for BBC Productions USA working specifically on the launch of TLC’s hit series WHAT NOT TO WEAR, and three seasons of WHILE YOU WERE OUT.
During the early part of her career, Koz was a producer, director, event producer and sports journalist – not to mention Channel 4’s host of the US Women’s Open Golf Championship in 1983. She left sports journalism to launch her own production company and produce extreme sport series – creating and producing four seasons of TRAILBLAZERS for ITV. In the late 1980s, she also specialized in military documentaries and directed the acclaimed BOMB DISPOSAL MAN for BBC1. She joined the BBC full time in 1993 to produce and direct a wide range of documentaries and factual entertainment series before coming to the United States in 2002.
Koz has never lost her love of sports. She’s an avid supporter of the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Ravens.
