The Festival Team
Why I do this: It’s a genuine privilege to be able to celebrate the best people and ideas in global television through one of the world’s most prestigious media festivals. After a career as a media journalist – the last 7 years as Editor of Broadcast – I’ve developed a deep love of television and great admiration for those making it, from the passionate doc-maker using TV as a force for good, to the entertainment powerhouses creating the most talked-tweeted-about TV moments. And there’s never a dull moment; whether it’s the future of the BBC, the rise of Netflix or the fall of Jeremy Clarkson, there are an impossible number of issues for us to explore. Luckily, I have passionate committees and a talented team to help me out. The cherry on top is our charitable status. Our two talent schemes help create career opportunities for everyone, whatever their background. What could be more rewarding?
Why I do this: What other role would not only allow you to watch TV on the job but actually encourage it?! It seems not a day goes by without a brilliant new hit series, TV water cooler moment that gets everyone talking or huge advancement in tech (did you know TV that responds to our emotions and changes the ending of your favourite show is already in development?!) I know because it’s my job to stay on top of this ever-changing mad world of television and help to filter it into content for the Best TV Festival in the world.
Why I do this
Brand Partnerships & Marketing Director
Why I do this: The Edinburgh TV Festival is a truly unique event, run by the TV industry for the genuine creative wellbeing and thought leadership evolution of TV industry, while serving our charitable remit of supporting the best new talent. From the great mix of highly talented and passionate individuals involved in making the event happen, to our amazing and invaluable industry partners and delegates, I do this for the exciting and challenging commercial and marketing remit this event presents.
Audience Development Manager
Talent Schemes Director
Why I do this: Because, despite all the obituaries, the internet didn’t kill television. They just joined forces to become this awesome thing that people like Kevin Spacey and Lily Tomlin would be totally up for doing. If I can demystify the TV industry for the next generation of diverse voices and original thinkers and change a few shy geniuses’ minds and let them know that TV is crying out for a different take on things, then colour me happy. That’s the why. The this I do is this: basically I’m Walter Matthau, the TV industry is baseball, and the Talent Schemes delegates are The Bad News Bears. Always end on a topical reference.
Talent Schemes Producer
Why I do this: Having started out as Festival Assistant, I’m excited to now be focussing on our two fantastic talent schemes. It’s really rewarding getting to build relationships with people across the industry – from new talent to rising stars and commissioners to heads of channels – as well as planning and co-ordinating live events. The role also gives me plenty of opportunity to garner Netflix recommendations and wax lyrical about Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
